Job Summary
Peer Support Specialist I provides peer-driven recovery support and training to individuals receiving services, helping establish a recovery environment and advocating for participant rights and needs. Responsibilities include engaging participants in recovery partnership, teaching recovery and life skills, modeling hope and self-advocacy, developing natural supports and community living, coordinating with clinical teams to arrange services, completing required clinical documentation, and adhering to regulatory and organizational policies. Position requires Peer Employment Training certification, a high school diploma or equivalent, lived experience with mental health/substance use services, and the ability to pass required trainings and background checks. Compensation ranges from $18/hour (no certificate) to $21/hour (with Delaware certificate); shifts vary across days/nights within a crisis services setting in Ellendale, DE. Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of Peer Employment Training thus obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools
- Effective communication skills
- Must be able to pass de-escalation training, as defined by state requirements
- Driving requirements if applicable per policy
- Must be able to pass background checks and compliance verifications
- Must be able to obtain fingerprinting clearance in applicable states
- Minimum age 18 (varies by funder/government regulations)
- Travel required based on business need
