Job Summary
Peer Support Specialist I provides peer support and recovery training to individuals in services, helping identify hopes and dreams, teach recovery and life skills using recovery tools, and model hope and self-advocacy while coordinating with the individual’s clinical team to arrange services and resources. The role involves advocacy for participants’ needs and rights, developing natural supports and community living, maintaining compliance with regulations, and performing related duties. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health/dental/vision, retirement with company match, and paid time off. Shift is days; onsite at Crisis - RRC in Newark, DE. Requires completion of Peer Employment Training and certification as a Peer Support Specialist, a high school diploma or equivalent, lived experience with mental health and/or substance use services, and ability to de-escalate, communicate effectively, and use basic computer tools. Travel may be required; position is full-time and non-exempt.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of Peer Employment Training thus obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services.
- Skills: Basic computer skills.
- Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools.
- Effective communication skills.
- Must be able to pass de-escalation training, as defined by state requirements.
