Job Summary
Peer Support Specialist I provides peer-support and recovery training to individuals receiving services, helping create a recovery environment and advocate for participants' rights and goals. Responsibilities include engaging individuals in a recovery partnership, teaching recovery and life skills using recovery tools, modeling hope and self-advocacy, developing natural supports and community living, coordinating with the clinical team to arrange services, completing clinical documentation, and maintaining compliance with policies and regulations. The role requires certification as a Peer Support Specialist (Peer Employment Training completed), a High School Diploma or equivalent, lived experience with mental health and/or substance use services, basic computer skills, strong communication, and de-escalation abilities; ability to pass background checks, drug testing where applicable, and HIPAA/privacy standards; driving as needed, and willingness to travel. Shift is Thursday–Saturday with some evenings (7:00pm–7:30am) at the Recovery Innovations Evaluation & Treatment Center in Fife, WA, and the role is full-time/non-exempt with a comprehensive benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of Peer Employment Training thus obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience: Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services
- Skills: Basic computer skills
- Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools
- Effective communication skills
- Must be able to pass de-escalation training, as defined by state requirements
- Driving requirements as applicable per policy
- Must be able to pass background checks and related screenings
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality (HIPAA) and professionalism
- Must be at least 18 years old (or 21 years old in applicable states)
- Travel required based on business need
- Direct Service Competency Checklist completion during onboarding
- Must be able to meet driving/insurance requirements if driving is required
