Job Summary
Peer Support Specialist I provides peer support and recovery training to individuals receiving services at the Crisis Care Center. Responsibilities include engaging individuals in a recovery partnership, teaching recovery and life skills using recovery tools, serving as an advocate for participants’ needs and rights, developing natural supports and community living, coordinating with the individual’s clinical team, and documenting in compliance with applicable policies. The role emphasizes modeling hope, personal responsibility, and self-advocacy, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting clients to achieve their recovery goals. Requires certification as a Peer Support Specialist and a High School diploma or equivalent; lived experience with mental health and/or substance use services is required; driving and background checks may be required depending on state regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of Peer Employment Training thus obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services.
- Skills: Basic computer skills.
- Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools.
- Effective communication skills.
- Must be able to pass de-escalation training, as defined by state requirements.
