Job Summary
Peer Support Specialist provides emotional support, coaching, training, and advocacy to individuals with serious mental illness in homes or community settings. Responsibilities include helping peers reach recovery goals, promoting self-determination and resilience, identifying natural supports and community resources, collaborating on individualized treatment and coping plans, participating in interdisciplinary meetings, and maintaining documentation (receipts/mileage). Requirements include living in recovery, being 18+, GED or high school diploma, completion of a 40-hour training within six months, strong communication and basic computer skills, and a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation. This role is in-person in Spencer, IA, offering hourly pay and a schedule of approximately 10-15 hours per week with competitive compensation and benefits.
Required Qualifications
- GED or high school diploma
- Ability to complete required 40-hour Peer Support Specialist training within six months of hire
- Valid Class C driver’s license (or Class D if insurable)
