Job Summary
Peer Support Counselor for PM shift in San Bernardino, CA. Primary responsibilities include using lived experience to provide outreach, engagement, support, advocacy, and direct services to program clients of all ages within the TAY Crisis Residential Treatment facility (ages 18-25). Role emphasizes helping clients move toward recovery, functioning as a role model, educator, and advocate, and collaborating within a 24/7 program that delivers therapeutic and mental health services, rehabilitation, pre-vocational/vocational counseling, and crisis intervention. Requires high school diploma or equivalent, personal lived experience with mental health/system, and one year of full-time consumer-directed service experience. Certification milestones include Peer Support Specialist certification within one year where applicable. Shift is 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM in San Bernardino, CA; benefits include employer-paid health coverage, paid time off, CEU opportunities, and supervision for BBS hours where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED, HiSET) required
- Personal experience as a consumer in the child welfare, probation, or mental health systems
- One (1) year of full-time experience performing non-professional, consumer directed services
- Mental health, health care, or other social services agency / organization serving people with disabilities preferred
- Peer Support Specialist Certification: successful completion of the certification process within one year of employment (preferred)
- Valid California Driver's License
- First Aid certification from persons qualified by agencies including but not limited to the American Red Cross
