Job Summary
Facilitate engagement with participants and families by forging strong connections, undertaking outreach to promote community awareness of services, and serving as a bridge during treatment ambivalence. Develop authentic relationships through empathy and shared experiences, while co-creating wellness tools to strengthen self-awareness and connect individuals to community resources. Advocate for participants within the larger community and on the team, actively influencing team culture by promoting a recovery-oriented, youth-friendly approach. Maintain frequent communication with the team, reporting safety concerns and documenting visits, often co-collaborating with participants on reporting. Significant travel to visit clients in home and other settings is required (50%), with adherence to an on-call cell phone system for crisis intervention.
Required Qualifications
- NYCPS Peer Certification or Provisional Certification
- Recovery Coach
- Peer Specialist
- Family Peer Advocate
- Understanding of the community in which the team is based with an awareness of available community resources
- Positive and productive progress toward his or her own recovery
- Good interpersonal communications skills
- Ability to empathize with, relate to and effectively work with participants of mental health services
- Ability/willingness to disclose their recovery story (where appropriate) for the purposes of empowerment
- Excellent judgment/ ability to understand boundaries when working with participants of mental health services
- Ability to adhere to on call cell phone system to facilitate crisis intervention, emergencies and other situations that require immediate action
- Significant travel to visit clients in their home and other settings (50%)
