Job Summary
Facilitate engagement and bridge building with participants and families in Brooklyn by conducting outreach, advocating for services, and supporting recovery. Distribute Naloxone kits to individuals and family members while developing authentic relationships through empathy and shared lived experience. Collaborate on co-creating wellness toolkits, clarifying personal visions, and connecting participants to community resources. Maintain open team communication by reporting safety concerns, documenting visits, and co-collaborating on reports. Work 75% of the time traveling to shelters and community settings, adhering to an on-call system for crisis intervention.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (or Provisional) Certification
- Understanding of the community in which the team is based with an awareness of available community resources
- Positive and productive progress toward his or her own recovery
- Good interpersonal communications skills and the ability to empathize with, relate to and effectively work with participants of mental health services
- Two years of active participation in substance use/mental health self-help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs, or participant run organizations or similar experiences or programs
- Ability/willingness to disclose their recovery story (where appropriate) for the purposes of empowerment
- Excellent judgment/ability to understand boundaries when working with participants of substance use and mental health services
- Ability to adhere to on call cell phone system to facilitate crisis intervention, emergencies and other situations that require immediate action
- Significant travel to engage clients at shelters, in their community and other settings (75%)
