Job Summary
Support individuals in the Restoration Center by promoting engagement, instilling hope, and helping them explore options for recovery and community living. Provide peer support services one-on-one and in groups, staff the Living Room for showers, laundry, and computer access, and offer assistance in Triage and Respite programs. Foster welcoming environments, facilitate peer support groups, and help persons served connect to community services, recovery networks, and healthcare or employment resources. Share personal recovery experiences to build equal, supportive relationships that empower wellness, while teaching self-management strategies like completing Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP). Assist with transportation to medical appointments and develop self-advocacy skills, utilizing trauma-informed, culturally competent, and strengths-based approaches. Receive regular supervision and coaching from the Manager of Peer Services.
Required Qualifications
- Personal, first-hand experience (not just having a friend or family member) being a recipient of the mental health system, which encompasses experiences such as psychiatric inpatient hospitalization, outpatient services/therapy, experience with psychiatric medications, and/or participating in mental health groups in the community
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Valid US driver's license for at least one year
- CPR certification within 2 weeks of hire
- First Aid certification within 2 weeks of hire
- Certified Peer Specialist credential within one year of hire
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or the use of a two-person lift
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a calculator, copier, and printer
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to assist clients with tasks of daily living
- Ability to assist in routine living activities including cleaning, meal preparation, vacuuming, shoveling, and grocery shopping
