Job Summary
The Peer Support Specialist will utilize their lived experience to guide individuals through their recovery journey through individual and group peer support sessions, maintaining a caseload including military veterans and individuals with serious mental illnesses. Responsibilities include establishing a positive social environment, developing community partnerships, providing advocacy and non-clinical case management services, assisting individuals in identifying recovery supports, and documenting interactions. Qualifications required include a high school diploma, peer certification, at least one year of experience in recovery-related supports, and knowledge of recovery concepts and military culture.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of experience in provision of recovery-related supports
- Personal or family lived experience with mental health or substance use
- Knowledge of recovery-based concepts and interventions
- Knowledge of military and veteran culture, support networks and resources
- Valid driver’s license
Desired Qualifications
- Bilingual is preferred
- Personal or family lived experience with military service preferred
- Peer Certificate (NJ CPRS or NAADAC NCPRSS) or in pursuit of Peer Certification
