Job Summary
The Peer Specialist will provide direct mental health services to recipients in rehabilitation and recovery programs, assisting them in regaining personal control over their lives. Responsibilities include teaching coping and self-help skills, advocating for clients, facilitating community support linkages, and coordinating activities. The role requires a flexible schedule, effective documentation of consumer interactions, participation in individual supervision, and maintaining confidentiality. Candidates must have a high school diploma and be certified as a Peer Specialist or Advocate, coupled with relevant experience in peer support.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency diploma required
- OMH-certified Peer Specialist/ OASAS-certified Peer Advocate
- Two years of active participation in mental health self-help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs, or recipient run organizations or similar experiences or programs
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills
- Life experience with mental health or substance abuse history
