Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) Homeless Outreach and Engagement Team

Job Summary

Engage with adults experiencing homelessness and severe mental illness to educate them on Family and Children Services resources and connect them to providers. Conduct fluid outreach to admitted clients and those referred but not yet connected, delivering basic supplies and contact information for community treatment. Meet clients in shelters, homes, or outdoors to teach coping techniques, model self-help strategies, and assist in building natural support systems. Provide in-person or telehealth services ranging from monthly to daily contact while gathering CCBHC data metrics. Transport clients with case managers using agency or personal vehicles to office and field-based locations.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum one-year participation in local or national consumer advocacy or knowledge in the area of mental health and/or substance abuse recovery
  • Must possess a driver's license and use of personal automobile for travel
  • May transport clients in personal automobile
  • ODMHSAS Case Manager I Certification, completed within 60 days of eligibility
  • PRSS Certification Required
  • Possess communication skills to teach new concepts and ideas to others
  • Possess knowledge about various mental health settings and community resources (i.e. local shelter, housing, food pantry, vocational resources, and other homeless resources)
  • Gather and complete all CCBHC data metrics for homeless population served

Desired Qualifications

  • Preference may be given to applicants who are current or former consumers of mental health and/or substance use services
