Job Summary
Peer Generalist in Dutchess/Ulster County providing peer-led, trauma-informed support within the Peer Navigation program. Responsibilities include crisis de-escalation, advocacy, system navigation, rights education, resource connection, and participant-centered coaching; duties span accompanying participants to hearings, coordinating services, maintaining documentation, and representing the agency at internal and community events. Requires lived, professional experience in mental health or substance use recovery, strong communication, boundaries, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment. Must obtain NYS Peer Specialist Certification within 6 months of hire. Location is Poughkeepsie, NY, with a standard 40-hour workweek Monday–Friday.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent + 3 years of direct support to individuals with disabilities or psychiatric diagnoses or case management
- Must obtain New York State Peer Specialist Certification within 6 months of hire through People-USA system
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and strengths-based approaches
- Understanding of recovery principles, peer support models, and employment services
- Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery encouraged
- Exceptional communication and boundary management
- Familiarity with ADA, mental health systems, Social Security benefits, and community services
- Valid driver's license
