Job Summary
Promote breastfeeding and develop, implement standards of care, and guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers across OB, Childbirth Education, and Breastfeeding classes. Organize information and prepare marketing materials to support patient care education by collaborating with Department Heads from Pediatrics, Family Practice, and OB/GYN. Maintain certification as a lactation consultant per IBLCE standards while holding an active RN license and PALS/BLS credentials. This salaried, full-time role at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth VA offers an eight-and-a-half or nine-hour shift schedule, a $10K sign-on bonus, and comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans.
Required Qualifications
- Associates Degree of Nursing
- Possess and maintain certification in Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) BLS
- Possess and maintain certification as a lactation consultant as determined by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE)
- Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to the HCW's clinical skills
- At least one (1) letter must be from a physician or nurse practitioner who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW's clinical competence in the care of patients
- The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician or nurse who has personal knowledge of the HCW's patient care skills in a similar clinical environment
- Reference letters shall attest to the HCW's communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members
- Reference letters must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference
- Possess and maintain certification as a lactation consultant
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse
