Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive pediatric dental services including examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, preventive care, restorative procedures, pulp therapy, space maintenance, extractions, emergency treatment, and surgical interventions. Provide dental treatment to pediatric patients requiring sedation and/or anesthesia in a hospital setting when clinically appropriate. Evaluate dental growth and development, eruption patterns, occlusion, oral habits, caries risk, and other developmental concerns while diagnosing and treating dental caries, pulpal disease, oral infections, dental trauma, and developmental abnormalities. Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings, diagnostic imaging, medical and dental history, developmental status, behavioral needs, risk factors, and patient and family preferences. Utilize age-appropriate communication and behavior guidance techniques to reduce anxiety, promote cooperation, and create a positive dental experience for infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special healthcare needs. Educate children, parents, and caregivers regarding oral hygiene, nutrition, fluoride, sealants, caries prevention, oral habits, injury prevention, and other practices that promote lifelong oral health. Coordinate care and referrals with orthodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, behavioral health professionals, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals as appropriate. Provide clinical direction and supervision to dental hygienists, dental assistants, students, residents, and other assigned personnel. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation within the electronic dental record. Participate in quality improvement, peer review, continuing education, community outreach, and other departmental and organizational initiatives. Maintain compliance with applicable infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, Oklahoma Board of Dentistry, accreditation, safety, and organizational requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Must align with OKCIC vision, mission, and core values.
  • Medical marijuana license holders who test positive for marijuana will not be qualified for this position.
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school approved by the American Dental Association.
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatric Dentistry residency program.
  • Board certification or eligibility through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD).
  • Current unrestricted license to practice Dentistry in good standing with the Oklahoma State Board of Dentistry.
  • Current DEA registration and Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (OBNDD) registration.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and clinical proficiency in pediatric dental diagnosis, treatment planning, preventive and restorative dentistry, dental trauma, pulp therapy, behavior guidance, growth and development, and care of patients with special healthcare needs.
  • Strong clinical judgment and excellent communication, patient education, documentation, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical pediatric dental experience preferred.
  • Experience providing dental care in a public health, community health, tribal health, hospital-based, federally qualified health center, or other fast-paced clinical environment preferred.
  • Experience with Dentrix, Epic, or other electronic dental record systems highly preferred.
