Job Summary
Monitor hemodynamic status, interpret results, and perform head-to-toe assessments on pediatric, geriatric, and general patients. Formulate and revise individualized plans of care, teach families based on identified learning needs, and treat patients with compromised nutritional or metabolic status requiring fluid and electrolyte management. Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identify dysrhythmias, and treat appropriately based on ACLS protocol. Assist physicians with procedures in the SCU and other departments while maintaining documentation standards and ensuring compliance. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers, addressing psychosocial and cultural needs. Requires current Florida RN licensure, BLS certification, and ACLS/PALS certification within one year.
Required Qualifications
- Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure
- BLS certification
- ACLS and PALS required within one year
- Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results
- Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy
- Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient's response to treatment, and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness
- Ability to assess and care for patients in the post anesthesia period, both in the PACU and SCU
- Ability to communicate appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers, and physicians
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol
- Ability to provide care to patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic status
- Ability to provide care to patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management
- Ability to coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary
- Ability to assist physicians with procedures both in the SCU and in other departments
- Ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
- Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments
- Ability to treat patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensure patient confidentiality
- Ability to identify and address psychosocial, cultural ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family
- Ability to interact professionally with patient/family and involve patient/family in the formation of the plan of care
- Ability to document that meets current standards and policies
- Ability to adhere to and practice the standards of performance outlines in the Standards of Performance handbook
- Ability to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor or upward through chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or hospital hotline
Desired Qualifications
- Two or more years of recent critical care experience preferred
- Successful completion of critical care orientation preferred
- ACLS and PALS highly recommended
