Job Summary
PCB Designer on the Avionics Hardware Development team, responsible for creating circuit board layouts from designed schematics and collaborating with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure components placement, layer stackup, routing, and manufacturability meet harsh spacecraft environment requirements (thermal, shock, EMI, etc). Responsibilities include reviewing/updating schematics, selecting components, performing routing feasibility studies for digital/analog/RF/power, producing PCB designs for launch vehicles and spacecraft, interfacing with manufacturing to meet DFM guidelines, creating/maintaining libraries and documentation for fabrication, and collaborating with PCB vendors to improve design rules. Requires experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software (KiCad, Altium, Eagle, Xpedition), electrical simulation software (LTspice, SIMetrix or similar), ability to design analog/digital/mixed-signal circuits, knowledge of digital interfaces (SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, RS-422), and a strong emphasis on design for manufacturability, test, and EMI/EMC considerations. ITAR considerations and SpaceX employee benefits are noted; role is based in Hawthorne, CA.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering
- 1+ years of experience in electronics hardware design
- 1+ years of experience with electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes)
