Job Summary

Review weekly employee timecards for completeness and follow up on missing or incorrect information. Enter payroll data, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, and deductions, while verifying information for accuracy before processing bi-weekly payroll. Maintain employee payroll records and electronic files, assist with reconciliations and audits, and respond to employee inquiries regarding paychecks, direct deposits, and tax withholding. Process employment verifications, support year-end activities like W-2 preparation, and help prepare reports for accounting and management. This entry-level role in Charlotte, NC includes on-the-job training in payroll processing and tax compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and telephone

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field
  • 0–2 years of payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, or administrative experience
  • Basic understanding of payroll concepts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with confidential information professionally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Experience with payroll software such as ADP Workforce Now, UKG, Paychex, or similar systems
  • Basic knowledge of federal and state payroll tax requirements
  • Experience working with timekeeping systems
  • Payroll Fundamentals Certificate or interest in pursuing payroll certification
  • Strong numerical aptitude
