Payroll Team Lead

Job Summary
Payroll Team Lead ensures successful payroll operations, compliance, training, data analysis, controls, audits, and reporting. Responsible for accurate on-time payroll for US and Canadian employees, including tax submissions, benefits contributions, T4 and W-2 reconciliations, and backup support to the Manager, Payroll. Leads coaching of Payroll Specialists, manages payroll inputs, updates trackers and documentation, oversees system configurations (Ceridian Dayforce) and payroll integrations, and supports audits and process improvements across US and CAD payroll processes. Travel to in-office events in Mississauga and related hybrid/remote coordination are part of the role. The position emphasizes governance, accuracy, and continuous optimization of payroll workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Payroll/Business or related fields
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification
- Minimum 7 years' experience processing payroll
- Experience in US and CAD payroll practices including multi-state processing
- Solid understanding of payroll processes and relevant legislation, source deduction and government remittance procedures (USA and CAD)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-changing and dynamic environment with evolving systems and procedures
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Self-motivated and detailed-oriented with the ability to prioritize and deliver results independently
- Experience with Dayforce
- Various payroll software experience and expertise
- Experience with payroll integrations (e.g., Fidelity, PlanSource, Sun Life)
- Knowledge of CRA, IRS and state tax legislation changes
