Payroll Specialist

Job Summary

Process biweekly payroll for all THQ employee groups, including exempt, non-exempt, and seasonal staff, while serving as backup for monthly retired officers' and employee pension payrolls. Ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and retirement contributions by validating HR changes and processing adjustments, voids, and off-cycle payments. Review pre- and post-payroll data for completeness, coordinate funding with the Payroll Manager and Assistant Controller, and generate management reports for HR, Risk Management, and the Pension Bureau. Maintain confidentiality of employee compensation, support annual external audits, and stay current on labor laws to update procedural documentation. Work approximately 35 hours per week in a hybrid arrangement after three months, becoming a subject matter expert on the UKG system.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of high-volume payroll processing experience, preferably for a minimum company size of 1,000 with multi-state workforce
  • Experience working with cloud-based payroll systems, such as UKG, ADP, Workday, Paylocity or other similar platforms
  • Strong knowledge of payroll principles, procedures and payroll tax regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including knowledge of complex formulas (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Nonprofit payroll experience is a plus
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred but not required
