Job Summary
Payroll Specialist will assist with the execution of payroll processing under the direction of the Payroll & Benefits Director. Responsibilities include processing payroll updates, new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates; managing payroll deductions (medical, dental, vision, health FSA/HSA, dependent life, group term life, 401k, 401k loans, Workers' Compensation); auditing new hires data entry for home code, workers’ comp code, and benefit class; providing payroll reports; reviewing garnishments for compliance; auditing payroll information for accuracy; preparing and reviewing payroll journal entries and related GL variances; following up on missed deductions; assisting with the annual 401k audit; and managing additional HR projects aligned to the department’s strategic goals. Requirements emphasize two years of payroll experience, multi-state filings, understanding federal wage/hour laws, proficiency in payroll software and MS Office, and strong confidentiality and judgment.
Required Qualifications
- Two years’ experience executing payroll processes, state and federal filings, and reconciliations.
- Experience working with multiple states preferred.
- Basic understanding of federal wage and hour laws.
- Proficient in Payroll software, Excel, MS Office.
- Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, diplomacy and excellent judgment in successfully navigating sensitive issues.
