Payroll Specialist

Job Summary
Manage the college's payroll processing and reporting functions, ensuring wages, tax withholdings, and direct deposits are accurate and timely. Calculate and verify payroll-related payments while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including quarterly tax filings and W-2 processing. Perform Workday administrative functions, including security maintenance, business process configuration, and system upgrades, while serving as a subject matter expert to troubleshoot integration issues. Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay matters and conduct annual payroll audits to prepare required reports. Review and improve payroll processes to minimize errors and implement best practices in collaboration with Human Resources.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 3–5 years of payroll experience
- 6–7 years of experience in finance or a process-controlled environment
- knowledge of payroll tax regulations and process controls
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- ability to work professionally with coworkers and customers and handle complex or sensitive situations
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- ability to learn new technologies and systems
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills
- ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively
- Experience managing departmental budgets and coordinating projects, programs, or events from planning through completion
