Job Summary
Payroll Specialist responsible for managing and coordinating day-to-day payroll operations for certificated and classified personnel across multiple groups/unions, ensuring timely and accurate payroll cycles, with duties including processing, resolving discrepancies, maintaining payroll knowledge (FICA, federal withholding, collective bargaining agreements), coordinating with Human Resources on new hires/terminations/salary determinations, and supporting leave tracking, audits, and reporting. Requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, customer service, and proficiency with Skyward and Excel; 260-day work year with 8-hour days and DOE-based salary range.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years job related experience
- Experience with Skyward software
- Experience in payroll management in a complex organization or government/municipal setting preferred
- Knowledge of payroll terminology, rules, and procedures
- Knowledge of automated payroll systems
- Knowledge of tax laws and reporting related to payroll
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to manage deadlines and work independently
- Experience with W-2/W-3 processing
- Experience in a K-12 educational setting and unionized environment (preferred)
