Payroll Specialist

Job Summary
Process weekly payrolls including off-cycles for assigned pay groups with 500-1000+ employees, reviewing timecard data for discrepancies and editing timesheets as requested. Prepare reconciliations, validate totals, and finalize documentation to submit for review, then print, sort, and ship payroll checks when needed. Calculate final pay according to state and union requirements, coordinate garnishments and child support with third-party vendors, and resolve payroll discrepancies by analyzing information. Handle detail audits, create reports, and assist employees and managers with questions while maintaining accurate record retention. Work closely with HR to ensure correct employee data and maintain process documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of payroll processing experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Thorough knowledge and an advanced understanding of each competency above in order to carry out the essential functions of this position
- Specialized Knowledge is also required in the following areas: Knowledge of Payroll Practices and regulations as they relate to federal and state requirements, garnishments, levies, fines, and fees at the federal, state, and local levels
- Advanced analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills required – advanced use of pivot tables, vlookups, etc
- Must be a team player and work effectively with all types of diverse personalities
- Must be highly detail-oriented and very organized with the ability to adapt to a changing environment
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle highly sensitive and personal information with sound judgement, tact and discretion
Desired Qualifications
- CPP or FPC certification highly preferred
