Payroll Specialist

Job Summary

Review and process bi-weekly and monthly payroll ensuring accuracy with wage rates, benefits deductions, federal income tax withholding, FLSA, and DOL status. Evaluate and identify areas of improvement within the payroll process while adhering to legal and ethical standards. Work with cross-departmental stakeholders to ensure payroll services such as the diocesan retirement plan, leave accounting, and benefits are delivered accurately and according to policy. Follow IRS, U.S. Department of Labor, and Fair Labor Standards Act guidelines to ensure all government documents, including Form W-2, are accurate and in compliance. Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church and continuously grow in ministry through religious ceremonies and training sessions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting or related field
  • Minimum of three years' experience with an accounting software package including payroll processing
  • Basic understanding of finance and accounting principles including general ledger
  • Basic knowledge of state and federal employment and payroll guidelines
  • Ability to perform research on state and federal regulations pertaining to compensation and labor guidelines
  • Strong mathematics skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word
  • Ability to operate general office equipment and computer hardware including 10-key by touch
  • Must have extensive experience with computerized accounting system
  • Must submit to employment required screenings including criminal background, MVR and drug screening
  • Must obtain certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
  • Position requires adherence to diocesan policies and procedures
