Job Summary
Payroll Specialist at Gresham Smith responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll across multiple states, withholding federal/state/local taxes in compliance with diverse regulations, preparing and filing payroll tax returns, reconciling payroll accounts, keeping up-to-date on payroll laws, collaborating with HR and finance to ensure data accuracy, assisting with payroll audits, handling employee inquiries about payroll/tax deductions/benefits, and supporting year-end activities (W-2/1099). Knowledge of Deltek Vantagepoint and payroll certifications (FPC/CPP) are a plus; role emphasizes multi-state payroll, tax compliance, data integrity, and cross-functional collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on full-cycle payroll processing experience
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- Extensive knowledge of multi-state payroll tax laws and regulations
- Proficiency with payroll software systems and Microsoft Excel
- Experience in the professional services industry and/or with Deltek Vantagepoint is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Payroll certification such as FPC, CPP, or equivalent is a plus
- Experience working in a complex, multi-state environment is preferred
- Familiarity with timekeeping systems and benefits administration is preferred
