Payroll Specialist

Job Summary
Collect timekeeping information, process company payrolls accurately, and verify applicable deductions for employee pay. Audit timekeeping records and new hires for compliance, compile payroll data including hours, bonuses, and commissions, and reconcile payroll liability accounts. Compute wages and deductions, review for accuracy, and post to payroll records while updating master files for tax exemptions, insurance coverage, and compensation changes. Enter benefit deductions, garnishments, and AR payments in accordance with state and federal laws. Maintain professional appearance and neat work area. Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older
- Clear and concise communication skills
- Proficient at MS Office
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 1 to 3 months related experience and/or training
- Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
- 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions of payroll program, and procedure documents
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as wage and hours laws for local, state and federal agencies
- Ability to speak and listen effectively employees of organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Must be able to stand at intervals
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time
- May need to regularly lift up to 10 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred- Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
