Payroll Specialist

Job Summary
Input, review, and audit timekeeping and payroll-related records using Kronos and Workday systems. Process special exception items including variable rates, tips, reversals, voids, and deductions with minimal oversight. Audit new hire, job change, salary actions, and termination documents to ensure accurate paycheck results. Support on-cycle, off-cycle, and bonus payrolls weekly, ensuring timeliness for time file batches, retro activities, and supplemental payments. Verify payroll registers and reports before final gross-to-net calculation. Resolve payroll-related tickets and handle garnishments and liens in compliance with Federal and State laws. Monitor production errors and update Standard Operating Procedures for management approval. Maintain strict confidentiality of all processed information.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate degree in HR, Accounting or Business Administration
- 1+ years Payroll experience within a complex, high volume, multi-state payroll system
- 1-2 years' experience with Workday payroll or other HCM
- 1-2 years' experience with UKG-Kronos system
- Demonstrated knowledge payroll processes including data entry, pay calculations, garnishments, tax, benefits, multi-state taxation rules, gross net manual calculation, final pay requirements, wage and hour laws
- Proven ability to maintain accuracy and timeliness of all payroll related functions
- Advanced Excel skills
- Quality written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work accurately under deadline pressure
- Ability to understand and track missing and/or required payroll components
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information reviewed and processed
- Ability to understand, calculate, and explain complex calculations and figures
- Regular computer work, sitting, and standing
- Seldom to never lifting up to 50lbs
- Understand and be able to carry out any of the Payroll Standard Operating Procedures for the End-to End processing
Desired Qualifications
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
- Experience in a retail environment
- Associate degree in HR, Accounting or Business Administration preferred
- an equivalent combination of education/experience required
