Payroll & Employee Benefits Specialist

Job Summary
Process bi-weekly payroll by verifying timecards, preparing journal vouchers for posting, and updating employee records. Manage benefits enrollment for new hires, cancellations, and annual open enrollment while reconciling payroll, PTO, and vendor benefit liabilities monthly and quarterly. Collaborate with HR to ensure personnel action notices are current and assist with COBRA, grant reconciliations, and the annual Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards. Prepare budgetary planning for wages, benefits, and taxes to support the controller. Work closely with HR and external vendors to maintain accurate records and resolve adjustments. Maintain confidentiality and provide customer service to management, employees, and former staff regarding payroll and benefits inquiries.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in accounting or finance
- Two years of payroll processing and employee benefits experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional organization and time management skills
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple objectives at one time
- Thorough attention to detail
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and processes
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Non-violent crisis intervention training class completed within 6 months of hire
- BLS certification obtained within 6 months of hire
- TB (test upon hire)
- Able to lift 15 pounds occasionally
- Able to travel as needed
