Job Summary

Process payroll accurately and on time each cycle for hourly, salaried, and multi-state employees, including reviewing timekeeping data, bonuses, commissions, and off-cycle payments before submission. Administer health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement benefit programs by leading open enrollment activities, processing new hire enrollments, and serving as the primary contact with brokers and carriers. Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS, reconcile payroll registers, and resolve discrepancies while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including FLSA, ACA, ERISA, and HIPAA. Respond to employee questions about pay and deductions with clear communication and support leave of absence administration. This mid-level role supports Beep's growing workforce across multiple states, partnering closely with HR, Finance, and outside vendors to keep payroll and benefits running smoothly.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of combined experience in payroll processing and benefits administration
  • Working knowledge of payroll/HRIS platforms (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, Gusto, Rippling, Workday, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of federal and state payroll tax rules and wage-and-hour law (FLSA)
  • Multi-state payroll experience
  • Familiarity with benefits compliance frameworks (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy when handling confidential and time-sensitive data
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to consistently meet hard deadlines
  • Clear, patient communication style — comfortable explaining pay and benefits topics to employees at every level
  • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets (pivot tables, lookups, basic formulas)
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Paylocity
  • Experience implementing or configuring an Applicant Tracking System (ATS)
  • Experience working directly with a benefits brokerage, including plan renewals and new benefits implementations
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) certification
  • Experience supporting payroll/benefits in a fast-growing or start-up environment
  • Prior experience in transportation, logistics, or another operations-heavy industry
