Job Summary
Payroll and Benefits Specialist based in one of Homestead Co-op’s Administration Offices (Carman or Portage la Prairie, MB) to manage bi-weekly payroll, deductions, government reporting, terminations and ROEs, administer pension changes, handle inquiries, provide time and attendance training, support WCB reporting, prepare HR reports, and contribute to cost planning and negotiations within a unionized setting. Must collaborate with HR and safety teams, maintain confidential employee records, coordinate with providers, and stay compliant with Canadian payroll and benefits legislation. Requires post-secondary payroll/finance credential, 5+ years full-cycle payroll experience, 3+ years benefits administration, and proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., Oracle, UKG, People Forward). Must demonstrate analytical, organizational, and communication skills and a customer-focused, collaborative approach.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary certificate in Payroll Administration or Accounting
- 5+ years full-cycle payroll experience
- 3 years administering employee benefit programs
- 3 years experience handling employee payroll and benefit inquiries
- Familiarity with payroll and HRIS systems such as Oracle, UKG, People Forward
- Solid understanding of Canadian payroll and benefits legislation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Strong interpersonal skills and confidentiality
- Ability to plan and negotiate in the collective bargaining process
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments
