Payroll Administrator

Job Summary

Process weekly union payroll and other designated cycles accurately, auditing time records and supporting documentation for completeness. Maintain employee earnings, deductions, direct deposits, and tax information while ensuring compliance with union contracts and federal, state, and local labor laws. Process employee transactions for new hires, terminations, promotions, and pay rate changes, and serve as the primary contact for inquiries regarding payroll policies and earnings. Assist with certified payroll reporting, prevailing wage requirements, W-2 preparation, and wage garnishments. Generate reports to support management decisions and maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee data. Work closely with Human Resources, Accounting, and Operations teams to administer payroll processes across multiple locations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll administration or payroll processing experience
  • Knowledge of payroll practices, wage and hour regulations, payroll taxes, and payroll compliance requirements
  • Experience processing payroll in a multi-state environment
  • Familiarity with construction payroll, certified payroll, prevailing wage requirements, and union payroll practices
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Experience with payroll systems, timekeeping platforms, and enterprise software applications
  • JD Edwards experience
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict payroll deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee information
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Experience supporting construction, utility, engineering, or project-based organizations
