Payroll Administrator General Accountant

Job Summary
Process weekly, biweekly, or semi-monthly payroll for all employees accurately and on schedule while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Prepare and reconcile payroll tax filings, W-2s, and year-end reporting, then reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and respond to employee questions. Administer the 401(k) program, including vendor transmissions and annual audits, and manage the timekeeping system for hours, PTO, and overtime. Support the Accounting Department with general ledger journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close activities. Review vendor invoices, process payments, and assist with annual 1099 reporting. Maintain confidentiality of compensation data and support budgeting and forecasting as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of payroll processing experience
- Strong understanding of payroll laws and tax regulations
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Experience with accounts payable and general ledger accounting
- Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems and payroll software, ADP
- Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, NetSuite, Epicor, or similar
- Experience in payroll software such as ADP, Paychex, Paylocity, or similar
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
