Job Summary
Payroll & Accounting Specialist responsible for administering and overseeing payroll operations, financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance, and process improvements. Partners with Controller and Finance/Human Resources to deliver timely monthly/annual reports, develop efficiencies (including automation), and ensure accurate reporting. Manages full-cycle payroll for 300+ employees across union and non-union environments, supports audits and budgeting, ensures compliance with CRA and BC payroll legislation, maintains benefit accounts and pension remittance, and mentors junior accounting staff. Enterprise-scale, multi-site, nonprofit/publicly funded context with exposure to payroll systems, Excel analytics, and collaboration across departments.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in payroll, accounting, financial reporting
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience processing full-cycle payroll for 300+ employees
- Experience preparing reconciliations, account balancing, remittances, and year-end reporting
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, formulas, reporting, and data analysis
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation, employer remittances, and taxable benefits
- Experience in a multi-site, unionized, non-profit, or publicly funded environment is considered an asset
- Experience in Inclusion Payroll System and QuickBooks Desktop is considered an asset
