Paving/Roller Operator

Job Summary
Operate roller machines and paving equipment on road construction projects to achieve daily production goals, transferring between tasks as situations require. Perform daily equipment checks, maintain machinery by greasing and checking fluids, and ensure safe parking and storage. Level earth to fine grade specifications, assist with pre-run markings, operate vibratory plates, shovel asphalt, and direct traffic around work areas. Notify the shop foreman of any maintenance or repair needs. Adhere to OSHA and H&K safety policies while wearing appropriate PPE. Work in conditions involving moving mechanical parts, fumes, vibration, and loud noise, with occasional exposure to outside weather.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with roller machines on highway road construction projects
- Experience raking, shoveling, and operating the screed
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to understand and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Problem solving
- Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
- Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)
- Regularly required to stand
- Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to walk
- Occasionally climb or balance
- Occasionally talk or hear
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Vision abilities include depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
- Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions
- Frequently exposed to vibration
- Frequently exposed to high, precarious places
- Noise level is usually very loud

Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as the GED) from an accredited educational institution
- Four years of experience with roller machines on highway road construction projects
- Experience with other heavy equipment commonly used in highway road construction
- OSHA or other relevant safety certifications
