Paving Crew Laborer

Job Summary
Acquires tools, measures distances from grade stakes, and bolts, nails, and aligns forms. Signals construction equipment operators to adjust machinery to grade specifications and levels earth to fine tolerances. Positions, joins, and seals pipe sections while erecting scaffolding and braces. Assists with pre-run markings, uses a paving lute to fine grade before compaction, operates vibratory plates, shovels asphalt, and directs traffic around the work area. Requires one year of related experience or a technical certificate, strong communication skills, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Performs duties in utility capacity on construction projects, often transferring between tasks as situations require.
Required Qualifications
- One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school
- Six months of related experience and/or training
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to understand and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Problem solving
- Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
- Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Two years of related experience and/or training
- Experience working in heavy civil construction, road construction, or quarries
- OSHA or other relevant safety certifications
