Job Summary
Supervise daily pattern shop operations to oversee the design, fabrication, maintenance, and storage of production patterns, templates, jigs, fixtures, and gauges for piano manufacturing. Ensure tooling meets engineering specifications by interpreting CAD models and manufacturing drawings while coordinating priorities with Engineering, Product Development, and Production departments. Manage the repair and modification of tooling, train staff in traditional woodworking techniques, and troubleshoot manufacturing issues related to tooling accuracy. Support new product development and prototype validation for both standard models and bespoke instruments, maintaining documentation and a safe, compliant work environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 5 years of experience in pattern making, tooling, woodworking, or manufacturing operations
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications
- Experience with CNC machining and CAD/CAM software
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing systems
Desired Qualifications
- Technical degree, apprenticeship, or certification in Pattern Making, Tool & Die, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, or related field
- Experience in musical instrument manufacturing, cabinetry, furniture manufacturing, or precision woodworking
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership abilities
- Knowledge of woodworking materials and manufacturing methods used in piano, furniture or general wood woodworking production
- Strong understanding of pattern making, tooling design, and manufacturing processes
- Union environment experience
