Job Summary
Conduct crime prevention, surveillance, and law enforcement duties to protect students, staff, faculty, and College property while maintaining public order and safety on campus. Patrol designated areas, including parking lots, residential, and academic facilities, to enforce regulations, traffic laws, and New York State Penal Laws. Respond to and investigate non-criminal and criminal calls, taking necessary action to protect life and property, taking individuals into custody, and fingerprinting violators. Provide emergency first aid, manage fire and intrusion alarms, and regulate pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic at special events. Conduct investigations of campus incidents, prepare detailed reports, present testimony in court or disciplinary hearings, and collect evidence. Serve as officer in charge in the absence of a sergeant, supervise shift personnel, and conduct field training for new officers. Establish liaison with community members and off-campus agencies to promote community-oriented policing.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- Successful completion of or the ability to complete the New York State Basic Course for Police Officers and certification
- Demonstrated ability to successfully complete the Ithaca College Office of Public Safety Field Training and Evaluation program
- Possession of or the ability to obtain a New York State Pistol Permit
- A valid New York State drivers license or the ability to obtain one and must meet the eligibility requirements to drive a College vehicle
- Ability and flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, special events and overtime (scheduled and unscheduled)
- Demonstrated ability to successfully perform the essential functions and duties associated with the position
- Subject to a background check
- Member of the collective bargaining unit
