Job Summary
Coordinate and supervise daily patrol operations for designated mountain areas, ensuring trails are properly marked and hazards are identified. Monitor skiing conditions, traffic, and weather while identifying injured, lost, or reckless skiers to provide first aid, stabilize patients, and transport them to base. Enforce safety regulations by stopping reckless skiers and taking appropriate disciplinary action. Perform trail maintenance tasks including checking for hazards, cutting brush, packing snow, and managing trail closures. Assist in lift evacuations, search for missing people, and oversee training for less experienced rescue workers. Complete accident reports and maintain rescue equipment and base first aid facilities. Stand by for emergency calls and provide courteous service to all guests.
Required Qualifications
- basic education (high school)
- excellent skiing/riding skills
- Outdoor Emergency Care and CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- two to three years of patrol experience and training
- the ability to direct and coordinate the work of others
- a solid understanding of mountain operations and procedures
- a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
- a broad base of technical first aid and rescue skills relevant to skiing
- lift evacuation
- rope work
- wilderness navigation
- toboggan handling
- splint application
- Ability to deal with customers in a courteous, efficient, confident, and authoritative manner
- Good basic reading and writing skills
- Experience using a variety of hand and power tools used in trail maintenance (hand saws, chain saws, and the like)
