Job Summary
Patrol Deputy role performing general law enforcement duties with average difficulty and responsibility: patrol assigned area, observe and investigate suspicious activities, enforce traffic laws, arrest traffic violators, check dwellings and property, collect information and prepare clear reports and affidavits, protect crime scenes and gather evidence, serve warrants and court orders, testify in prosecutions, use force as necessary up to deadly force, provide backup to other officers, operate emergency and non-emergency equipment, attend trainings, assist the public and other agencies, and perform other duties as required. The position requires extensive travel within Natchitoches Parish (80-100%), shift work including weekends and holidays, and readiness to respond to disasters. ADA-compliant physical requirements and environmental conditions are noted (physical exertion, variable weather, driving, and field activities).
Required Qualifications
- Certification by the State of Louisiana Peace Officer Standards & Training Council as Law Enforcement Officer
- At least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalency
- No felony, drug, or domestic violence convictions
- Pass all required pre-employment screenings
- Valid Louisiana driver’s license
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
- Basic computer skills such as typing, writing reports, and sending and/or receiving emails
