Job Summary
Respond to citizen complaints, emergencies, and illegal activity while patrolling county roads, city streets, highways, and waterways. Conduct traffic enforcement, investigate vehicle crashes and crimes, make arrests, and prioritize calls based on severity. Assist detectives with investigative groundwork, perform court security, serve civil process, and transport prisoners. Operate specialized equipment including drones, boats, snowmobiles, and ATVs as needed. Prepare reports, draft search documents, and testify in court. Maintain proficiency with firearms, tasers, and other law enforcement tools while collaborating with local police, emergency services, and social agencies.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate
- Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or relevant field
- Valid Minnesota driver's license
- Minnesota P.O.S.T. licensed or eligible to be licensed at time of employment
- Working knowledge of laws, ordinances, rules and policies effective in Freeborn County
- Knowledge of modern police practices and methods
- Knowledge of First Aid methods and techniques
- Skill in operation and maintenance of equipment and weapons used in activities
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to effectively use a computer and various software programs
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Analytical ability and inductive thinking in adapting policies, procedures, and methods to fit unusual or complex situations
- Ability to handle a variety of typical assignments and problems under moderate supervision within standard operating procedures
- Ability to apply considerable analytical skills to select, evaluate, and interpret data from several sources
- Two-year Associates degree in Law Enforcement or equivalent as approved by the Minnesota POST Board
- MN Peace Officer License
- Emergency Vehicle Operation Course - Firearms/Use of Force/Taser
- Class D Driver's License or equivalent
- AED/First Aid and CPR
