Job Summary
Transport patients to and from the point of service, including admissions, discharges, ancillary areas, and other service locations while performing varied patient and equipment handling duties. Monitor oxygen tank levels and attach equipment per policy, and execute patient lifting and transfers using proper technique. Handle large amounts of walking and standing, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stoop, bend, and twist. Requires training in assigned competencies including infection control policies and oxygen transport procedures. No experience required. Weekend rotation schedule includes Monday through Wednesday and Saturday through Monday from 7am to 3:30pm.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or an equivalent combination of education experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired
- graduates from an approved IU Health transition-to-work program
- training in all assigned competencies such as but not limited to patient oxygen equipment and monitoring of levels and amounts
- training in patient lifting and transfers
- training in infection control policies
- the ability to follow oxygen transport policy and procedures, including attaching and monitoring of oxygen tank levels during transport
- the ability to frequently work in a standing position and do large amounts of walking
- the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and be able to stoop, bend and twist while handling these weights
- the ability to use repetitive motions such as grasping, fine manipulating, medium dexterity, forearm/wrist rotation movement area used daily
- the ability to perform the basic patient lifting through in-service for proper technique
