Job Summary
Transport patients and equipment throughout the hospital and clinics via wheelchair or gurney, assisting floor staff with transfers and managing soiled or broken equipment. Identify patients using identification bands, utilize the technology system for assignments and delays, and issue rental equipment while adhering to Geisinger transport guidelines. Maintain wheelchair availability in staging locations, greet patients professionally, and collaborate with healthcare team members to facilitate care. Receive assignments via smartphone and ensure proper body mechanics during lifts.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
- Must be available for evening shifts (2nd shift) 3pm-11:00 pm
- Must be available for weekends and holidays rotation
- Must be able to lift and maneuver patients using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Must be able to lift and move patients, belongings, and equipment
- Must be able to assist patients in and out of vehicles and transport equipment
- Must be able to transport patients, belongings, and deceased to and from assigned departments
- Must be able to transport specific patient care equipment, specialty carts, and beds
- Must be able to identify those needing cleaning and repair
- Must be able to transport soiled equipment to the appropriate cleaning area
- Must be able to transport broken equipment to be biomed for repairs
- Must be able to clean soiled patient care equipment
- Must be able to maintain wheelchair availability in assigned staging locations
- Must be able to maintain eye contact, acknowledge and greet patient
- Must be able to communicate the transport destination to the patient
- Must be able to interact with patients in a professional manner
- Must be able to collaborate with other healthcare team members
- Must be able to receive patient and equipment transport assignments via Smartphone
- Must be able to properly identify patient prior to transport
- Must be able to assure that patient has an identification band
- Must be able to utilize technology system for patient and equipment transports
- Must be able to utilize the Delay and Postpone function within technology system
- Must be able to issue rental equipment
- Must be able to log equipment when distributing
- Must be able to adhere to the Geisinger Patient Transport/Nursing Handoff Guidelines
- Must be able to comply with all organization policies and procedures
- Must be able to satisfy all job specific obligations
