Patient Transporter

Job Summary
Transports patients to and from examinations and treatments, performs related duties (assisting in and out of cars, wheelchairs, gurneys, and moveable beds), prepares patients for transport, identifies patients, and communicates with medical staff to ensure proper transport of patients and supplies. Provides support under RN direction, contributes to safe and efficient patient flow, cleans and disinfects equipment, maintains a clean work area, and participates in safety initiatives. Adheres to HIPAA, universal precautions, and other policies; demonstrates empathetic communication and professionalism with patients and staff; aims to support timely discharges and overall quality patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of three months of on-the-job-training
- High school diploma or equivalent
- BLS (AHA) or BLS (ARC) within 90 days of hire
- Understands and demonstrates safe lifting and transport techniques
- Knows and practices Universal Precautions as appropriate
- Demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism in daily interaction with patients, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians, and management
- Ability to understand and follow directions, ability to comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements
- The ability to recognize if the patient is experiencing stress or other issues during transport and immediately seek assistance
