Job Summary
Transport all patient populations to and from examinations, treatments, and testing areas using wheelchairs, gurneys, or moveable beds. Assist patients in and out of vehicles and beds, while preparing patients for transport and performing active and passive identification. Effectively communicate with medical staff to ensure medications and supplies are transported with patients, including administering oxygen when required. Clean and disinfect equipment, maintain work areas, and report malfunctioning instruments to appropriate staff. Under the direction of medical employees or registered nurses, assist ambulatory patients with toileting and support timely patient discharge. Adhere to unit procedures, safety initiatives, and HIPAA confidentiality requirements while recognizing patient stress and seeking assistance when needed. Complete three months of on-the-job training and obtain BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of three months of on-the-job-training
- High school diploma or equivalent
- BLS (AHA, American Heart Association) or BLS (ARC, American Red Cross) within 90 days of hire
- Understands and demonstrates safe lifting and transport techniques
- Knows and practices Universal Precautions as appropriate
- Demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism in daily interaction with patients, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians, and management
- Ability to understand and follow directions
- Ability to comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements
- The ability to recognize if the patient is experiencing stress or other issues during transport and immediately seek assistance
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
