Job Summary
Patient Support Specialist assists the care team with clerical duties to prepare patients for visits, manage registration and payment processes, verify insurance (Medicaid/Medicare/BCBS), schedule/reschedule appointments, and support daily operations and quality improvement within a Patient Centered Medical Home model. Responsibilities include greeting patients, maintaining confidentiality, handling calls, guiding patients through sliding-fee information, collecting fees, updating demographics, verifying PCP assignment, sending Medicaid referrals, EMR data entry, and participating in team huddles and ongoing training.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Graduation from a Business or Technical School in a secretarial training program is preferred. However, prior experience in a similar position may be substituted.
- A minimum of five years secretarial experience is desirable.
- Ability to use current office machines and equipment.
- Ability to type a minimum of 60 words per minute.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and on the telephone with other staff, the public, the patients and the medical staff of the community health center.
