Job Summary
The Patient Support Specialist works as part of the care team performing clerical duties to prepare patients for visits, handle registration and demographics, verify insurance and eligibility (including Medicaid/Medicare/BCBS), collect patient fees, schedule and reschedule appointments, issue letters (e.g., school excuses), and maintain patient flow and lobby appearance. The role supports payment processing, scans/publishes paper records into the EMR by day’s end, and participates in monthly clinical staff meetings and daily team huddles. Responsibilities include ensuring patient confidentiality, providing needed information, directing patients and visitors, communicating schedule changes to patients and medical staff, and supporting a Patient Centered Medical Home model of care while pursuing ongoing continuing education and adherence to workflow processes established by Mainline Health Systems, Inc.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Typing 60 words per minute (minimum).
- Five years of secretarial experience desirable (preferred).
- Graduation from a Business or Technical School in a secretarial training program preferred.
