Job Summary
The Patient Support Specialist works as part of the care team to perform clerical duties that prepare patients for visits, arrange for payment, and conduct follow-up as needed. Responsibilities include greeting patients, protecting confidentiality, answering and transferring calls, informing eligible patients about sliding fee scales, collecting fees, handling patient registration and check-in/out, coordinating future appointments, balancing daily deposits, maintaining lobby appearance, directing patient flow, communicating schedule changes to providers and staff, verifying insurance numbers and PCP assignments, processing Medicaid referrals, using an iPad for check-ins, and entering/scanning paper records into the EMR. The role supports quality improvement and participates in team meetings and daily huddles, with a willingness to pursue continuing education and adhere to the Patient Centered Medical Home model. The position is non-exempt, standard clinic hours apply with potential schedule adjustments and volunteer clinic hours on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Graduation from a Business or Technical School in secretarial training preferred
- Prior secretarial experience desirable (minimum five years)
- Ability to type minimum 60 words per minute
- Effective communication skills (in person and on the telephone) with staff, public, patients and community health center
