Job Summary
Patient Services Representative (PSR) serves as the first point-of-contact in a fast-paced clinical environment, coordinating care and delivering excellent patient experience. Responsibilities include pre-registration/scheduling (in-person or virtual), registration/check-in, message and queue management, medical records requests, referral management, and billing/payment processing/charge reconciliation. Primary duties cover coordinating appointments (new, follow-up, rescheduling, cancellations), managing a multi-line phone system, guiding patients on insurance coverage (co-pays, co-insurance, self-pay, Medicaid/Medicare, etc.), enrolling patients on the patient portal, arranging interpreter services, greeting patients, completing check-in, handling outreach communications, coordinating with clinical staff, managing appointment queues, coordinating outside medical record requests, managing referrals, collecting copayments, and supporting a culture of community and infection control standards. Desired experience includes medical reception or administrative roles, knowledge of medical terminology, verifying insurance coverage, and EMR (Epic) familiarity with HIPAA compliance; strong communication and organizational skills are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of experience in a customer service role
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to problem solve and stay calm under pressure
- Strong written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Active listening and de-escalation techniques
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Keyboarding skills and Windows-based software knowledge
