Job Summary
The Patient Services Representative schedules appointments across multiple departments, verifies patient demographics and insurance, collects copays, answers multi-line phones, and generates reports in a high-volume medical office. The role requires proficiency with EPIC/Practice Management software, knowledge of insurance billing and eligibility, strong customer service and multitasking abilities, confidentiality under HIPAA, and the ability to balance transactions at day's end. Responsibilities also include directing inquiries, referring patients to appropriate areas, and assisting with billing and medical records as needed.
Required Qualifications
- One year of experience in a medical office with high call volume including using patient data systems to schedule patients, entering demographic and insurance information, entering visit charges and payment information, and generating reports
- Familiarity with Practice Management Software (EPIC preferred) and ability to access patient demographic information, navigation, templating, and scheduling
- Must possess exceptional customer service skills, multi-tasking abilities, and the ability to manage upset patients and communicate policies clearly
- Proficiency with Windows and Excel; 10-key proficiency
- Knowledge of insurance billing, co-pays, and policy coverage; ability to verify insurance in systems like Trizetto, Provider One, and One Health Port
- Confidentiality of patient information per HIPAA standards; ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Education: High School degree or equivalent; higher degree coursework preferred
- Experience with cash handling and balancing transactions at end of day
- Ability to work as part of a team; strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to sit or stand in a stationary position and move about the office or building
- Experience with EPIC and familiarity with natural medicine terminology
